Two social workers involved in the Baby P case are to be charged with misconduct, the General Social Care Council (GSCC) has said.

Maria Ward and Gillian Christou, both of whom were sacked by Haringey Council, will face a disciplinary hearing on 24 May. Following their sacking, they were banned from practising social work for 17 months, but the suspension was lifted by the GSCC last month.

Both social workers stand accused of failing to ensure a child protection plan was followed, and failing to keep up-to-date records of supervision meetings. Christou also faces allegations of failing to document evidence of a risk management plan, reports the BBC.

Peter Connelly, known as Baby P for reasons of confidentiality, had been seen 60 times by social workers before being found dead, with more than 50 injuries, in 2008.
