Airport workers have walked again, after talks aimed at resolving a
long-running dispute broke down.
Members
of the Transport and General Workers’ Union went on strike for three hours from
3am today in the latest of a series of stoppages sparked by planned job cuts.
The
union and the airport blamed each other for failure to reach a breakthrough at
Tuesday’s meeting, which was held under the chairmanship of conciliation
service Acas.
Dave
McCall, the union’s regional secretary, accused the airport of
"snubbing" the talks by sending only one official from the two
divisions involved in the row.
"The
T&G went into the Acas talks today to try to resolve this dispute. It was
the airport, unfortunately, that paid no respect by not sending their directors
and only sending a representative from one division,” he said.

The
airport’s aviation services managing director David Teale accused the union of
announcing fresh strikes before the Acas talks started.
