Jayne Mee, head of training & development, Punch Retail
Jayne Mee has joined pub chain Punch Retail to bring a new focus to the
whole area of people development.
Mee already has experience of the pub trade after a spell as HR director at
Whitbread.
She will be responsible for developing strategy in line with the firm’s
business plan. Punch Retail has around 17,000 staff at 1,056 pubs, nightclubs
or food outlets and Mee will be responsible for all layers of people in the
business.
Taking a longer term view, Mee wants to make the department more
customer-focused by offering training that can motivate staff in a
traditionally transient workforce. "I’m really looking forward to working
with my team to develop and deliver these exciting training and development
plans," she says.
"One of the biggest challenges is growing people through the business.
Historically it’s an industry where staff turnover is very high. We want to
develop our people and offer them a good career path."
She believes that HR can have a huge impact on the bottom line, especially
in the pub trade where staff are often key to the success of an outlet.
"Punch is very much a people business and staff are at the top of our
agenda. Our customers often go to pubs because of the people who run or work in
them."
In her spare time, Mee is a keen walker and swimmer and enjoys going to the
gym.

On the move
Julie Deadman has been appointed head
of HR at Collingwood Housing Association, based in Manchester. She joins the
firm from Xinetica where her previous role was HR manager. Her responsibility
at the social housing provider is primarily to develop the HR function of the
business in order to maximise the skills of the workforce.

Nathan Cahill has joined Personnel
Today’s parent company RBI as HR director, taking over from Tony Sheen. He was
previously HR director of BOC Gases in the UK, most recently based at its
Guildford headquarters. Cahill has worked in the UK and internationally and has
extensive HR experience, having held senior appointments in operational and
senior functional roles. He has an Economics degree from Cardiff University and
his career started at Lucas Girling, a motor component manufacturer, where he
spent more than five years gaining experience across the core HR functions. He
then joined Christian Salvesen where he spent over two years setting up the HR
function across sites in the Midlands and London.
Capital Projects Consultancy has
appointed Bob Gordon as head of HR. Previously he was HR manager for Prices
Candles. Gordon’s main responsibility is the continuing development of the team
of consultants and the formulation and delivery of an innovative and effective
HR strategy.
