DLA-MCG talk merger
Law firm DLA and the MCG Consulting Group have announced that they are in
talks to integrate their businesses. The two companies have previously
collaborated on a number of HR consultancy assignments for some of the UK’s

Staff stick with office
Predictions that new technology will lead to a work revolution, where office
staff are replaced by people working from home, have failed to materialise,
according to a TUC report. The study concludes that home computers are more
likely to be used by stressed executives taking work home with them at the
weekends or by self-employed people who have always worked from home. Â www.tuc.org.uk
CV creative writing
The British are a nation of liars when it comes to their CVs, according to
research conducted by Mori. The survey of 1,042 workers across all industry
sectors, found that more than a quarter have misled potential employers. More
than a quarter of respondents have lied about their salary, and almost half
made up information about their leisure pursuits. Over a third of male workers

McDonald’s fined
Two McDonald’s restaurants in Surrey have been fined £12,400 for exploiting
child workers. Ikhya Enterprises, which holds the franchises for the outlets in
Camberley, was fined after admitting 20 offences of illegally employing
schoolchildren.

Defra faces pay strike
Thousands of civil servants are being balloted over strike action over
differences in pay at the new Department for Environment, Food and Rural
Affairs. The Public and Commercial Services Union sent out ballot papers this
week to more than 3,000 members employed at the at the department, calling for
a one-day strike on 20 August. www.pcs.org.uk
