Birmingham City Council has launched a new website to
modernise its recruitment process and make council jobs accessible to a wider
range of people.
The year-long contract with public sector Internet
recruitment provider JobsGoPublic cost £15,000 and will serve as an additional
recruitment tool council to recruit around 5,000 jobs every year.
Glen Knott, personnel officer at Birmingham City Council,
said, “We introduced it to keep pace with technology and to make council jobs
more accessible to a wide range of people. It’s a market we felt we should tap
into and use as a supplementary tool to recruit.”
He added that the new system would reduce administration
costs for the council as well as postal costs for the applicants, and
contribute towards the council’s strategy to use less paper.”
The site, which is linked to the council’s main website,
will let users search for current job vacancies by profession, download job
descriptions, person specifications and application forms, and apply for jobs
online.

The website has now been rolled out across the Council after
successfully being piloted by four departments.
