Half of UK business managers
claim they are working longer hours, according to a business survey.
The I in Business Survey
2001, carried out by the British Chambers of Commerce and banking firm HSBC,
revealed that 49 per cent of business managers say they are putting in longer
hours than they were five years ago.
Over 50 per cent claim that the
introduction of new technology has not eased their workload.
“Business people appear to be
under increasing pressure to match technology’s capacity to deliver results
fast,” the report says.
The survey also reveals three
quarters of business managers think that the Government is increasing red tape.
77 per cent said they believed bureaucracy and red tape was on the increase.
It claims that large businesses
appear to be suffering more than small and medium size firms as a result.
Over 6,000 UK business managers
participated in the survey, which asked about their motivation, workload, and
business performance. Over half of businesses surveyed had a turnover of £500,000
or more, and employed more than 20 people.
