Supermarket chain Morrisons is to create more than 3,500
jobs over the next two years.
The company is to open seven new stores this year, employing
2,000 new staff and four more stores are planned for 2002, creating a further
1,500 jobs.
Morrisons has reported full year takings of £3.77 billion,
an increase of 18.2 per cent over the previous year, together with an overall
increase in like-for-like takings of 9.1 per cent.
Chairman, Sir Kenneth Morrison, commented, “By quietly
getting on with good shop keeping, ensuring our stores are kept up to date, our
staff are friendly and that our prices remain competitive, we are growing
market share and winning customers.”
