Workers
at Peugeot’s Ryton plant have rejected the company’s pay offer of just over 4
per cent.
The
car workers voted by 1,780 to 374 to reject Peugeot’s two-year deal of a 4.3
per cent pay increase in the first year and inflation plus 0.7 per cent in the
second year.
“Now
we have the ballot result it is quite clear that we were right to warn the
company that a two-year deal with strings attached would not be accepted,” said
Tony Woodley, the T & G union spokesman.
He
added, “The ball is firmly back in Peugeot’s court and we would urge them to
meet with us so we can talk about a new offer.”
