Enlightening venture on-line for public sector


Impower, an on-line provider of government services, and Epic Group, a developer of on-line interactive training, are forming a new venture, known as Enlighten. This is the first company dedicated to the provision of interactive on-line training for the public sector. Enlighten will join forces with the Institute of Public Finance (IPF) to develop e-learning courses, aimed at local authorities. The courses will focus on local government finance, Best Value and IT skills for local government staff and members.

E-learning provider gains UK accreditation


DigitalThink, a provider of e-learning solutions, has been accredited by the UK professional standards body the Institute of IT Training (IITT). As a result of the accreditation, IITT will recommend DigitalThink to companies seeking training providers. Tony Moss, director of professional services at the IITT, said, “DigitalThink has developed solutions for some of the world’s leading Fortune 1000 companies such as Charles Schwab and Deutsche Bank.”

Groundbreaking scheme wins DfEE award


An innovative distance learning scheme devised and delivered by the National Extension College (NEC) and Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE) received a National Training Award from the DfEE last month. CCE runs the scheme for up to 40 young recruits a year aged between 18-23, who are based at 13 sites throughout the UK. The programme, known as Skillstart, leads to a new Edexcel Advanced Diploma in manufacturing and distribution.


Security trainer lands £100,000 courseware gift

Xebec McGraw-Hill has donated £100,000 of CD-Rom courseware to Sito, a national organisation that develops training for the security industry. The materials will be used in Sito’s nine regional centres. Xebec’s CD-Rom resources cover issues such as customer service, interpersonal skills and health and safety.
