US software worker accused of killing seven colleagues

An employee of a Massachusetts Internet consulting company is appearing in a US Court today charged with killing seven colleagues who worked in the company’s accounts department.

Michael McDermott is accused of shooting four women and three men at Edgewater Technology in Wakefield, Massachusetts. US prosecutors are investigating whether McDermott was upset about an Internal Revenue Service request to dock his wages to pay back taxes.

Middlesex District Attorney Martha Coakley said the company had agreed not to begin taking money from McDermott’s pay-packet until after the holidays.

However, according to an employee, McDermott had an angry outburst in the company’s accounting department last week over the prospect of losing some of his wages as a software worker.
