British Nuclear Fuels’ HR director Roger Leek is to leave the company as
part of a “clean sweep” of top-level management.
The move follows two damning safety reports on the Sellafield nuclear
processing plant.
Leek, who will leave by "mutual consent" at a date yet to be
fixed, joined BNFL from Volvo where he was senior vice-president.
A spokeswoman said an announcement will be made in due course about his
successor.
A statement issued by BNFL added, "Roger Leek joined BNFL four years
ago. Among his many contributions is the introduction of the new single company
contract for most UK-based staff. But it is now time for a fresh start."
Other staff due to be replaced include finance director Ross Chiese,
director of safety David Coulston and six non-executive directors.
One of the reports by the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate criticised the
plant for a "lack of safety culture".
Seventy staff are to be recruited at Sellafield to allay fears that job cuts
have are jeopardising safety.

Two years ago, Leek, an executive director, told Personnel Today the company
was looking to reduce its rigid management structure from eight levels to four.
Leek, who has 30 years experience in human resources, has also worked for
Goodyear and Thorn EMI.
