RBS, Cable & Wireless, JJB, Bentley and General Motors reveal job cut plans

Thousands of UK job cuts were announced yesterday (10 February) with workers at RBS, Cable & Wireless, Bentley and JJB Sports at risk.

Royal Bank of Scotland said it planned to cut up to 2,300 jobs from its back office operations across the UK – putting HR staff in the firing line.

The cuts represent about 2% of RBS’s UK workforce of 106,000 employees.

Around 600 jobs are being axed at telecoms firm Cable & Wireless following its integration with rival Thus.

And the future of 800 staff at sports retailer JJB was uncertain after the firm appointed administrators for its lifestyle division. The decision affects footwear retailer OSC and store Qube.
