Metropolitan police commander Ali Dizaei has been jailed for four years after been convicted of falsely arresting a man.
Dizaei was also found to have made up his account of being assaulted and threatened by Waad al-Baghdadi.
A jury at Southwark crown court took two and a half hours to find him guilty of misconduct in public office and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
In addition to his prison sentence, Dizaei faces being sacked from the police force.
Following the verdict, Nick Hardwick, chair of the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), called Dizaei a “criminal in uniform”, and said that he had behaved like a bully.

Hardwick, whose organisation investigated the case, said: “The greatest threat to the reputation of the police service is criminals in uniform like Dizaei.”
Dizaei also faced criminal charges in 2003. He is believed to be the most senior officer to have stood trial in recent times, reports the Guardian.
