IT training

IT training: the cost

by Personnel Today 18 Feb 2010
by Personnel Today 18 Feb 2010

IT training costs will vary enormously, depending on the training needed and the people involved. This pages attempts to give you some idea of the ballpark costs of various training in the IT field.

Among the bigger suppliers, QA offers the following: a two-day Dreamweaver course for £750; a day’s training in Excel 2010 Level 1 for £245; and a five-day course on Cisco Sceurity Solutions for Systems Engineers for £1,895 per person. QA’s courses range from just two hours in length (Windows 7 for IT Professionals, Virtual Class, at £49) and clients are encouraged to discuss potential bulk bookings and discounts.

Learning Tree International has a standard course fee – £1,150 for two days, £1,475 for three, £1,825 for four and £2,145 – across its training range, from IT to management courses. It offers a number of training passes that involve substantial discounts. The 10-day training pass, for example, allows candidates up to 10 training days within 12 months, and gives a saving of £355.

Firebrand Training, which offers accelerated learning, has a range of courses, including DisasterRecovery Professional Certification and Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician, both at £2,775 for five days, and Linux LPI level 1 Certification at £3,050 for six days.

Head of communications James Lapwood says: “Firebrand offers an alternative to traditional training. We aim to deliver certification in half the time of anyone else. Students stay at our training centre for the duration of the course, where they are fully immersed in the subject. All accommodation and meals are included.”

With such a variation in costs, the most important issue is that you find the training that is right for you. Make sure you have a clear idea of what you need before you begin comparing costs.
