Abbey bank will add 300 branches to its network in the UK, bringing the total number to 1,005 by 2012 under new plans.
Spanish group Santander, which acquired Abbey in 2004, said it planned to roll out new branches in 2009 at a rate of between 70 to 85 branches a year, targeting under-represented regions including the North-East and the Midlands.

A spokesperson from Abbey told Personnel Today that the group will assess the number of people it requires for the new branches in 2008.
“We have already employed 300 new people this year, and depending on the size of the branches and locations, will determine the number of personnel we will employ.”
