The Labour MP for Hackney went to Downing Street today with
six Hackney Council workers to protest at the council’s changes in pay and
conditions.
Diane Abbott helped present the protest letter at Number 10 as
part of the staff’s three-day strike action, which started on Monday.
“We are continuing to attempt to reach a negotiated
settlement with the unions but to date, they have not been prepared to address
the substantive issues at stake,” said joint vice-chair of the policy and
finance Councillor Eric Ollerenshaw.
He added, “The strike is not going to help services in the
borough or long-suffering residents.”
