Spending
by UK companies on acquisitions of foreign firms decreased from £8.8bn to
£6.8bn over the first two quarters this year, according to the latest figures
by the Office for National Statistics.
Expenditure
on acquisitions in this country by UK firms also dropped from £4.2bn in quarter
one to £3.8bn in quarter two.

However,
spending by foreign firms on acquisitions in the UK increased over the same
period from £2.8bn to £4.6bn.
