Virgin Atlantic has said it is "surprised" that the Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union (AEEU) has applied to the central arbitration committee on behalf of the airline’s cabin crew to represent its staff.
"We are surprised that this action has happened. We had been in talks with the AEEU up until Christmas and expected to put together a joint ballot in the New Year," said a Virgin Atlantic spokesman.
"Virgin should take its head out of the clouds and face reality," said Roger Maskell AEEU national officer for airlines. "The cabin crew want a trade union and we are going to give them a voice."
