Conductors,
station and retail staff at Arriva are to strike for 24 hours on Saturday 21
September as part of their long-running campaign against low pay.
The
RMT union claim that conductors, station and retail employees earn as little as
£9,500 a year and were only offered a 4 per cent annual pay increase.
Arriva
drivers received a pay rise of 18.5 per cent, with additional enhancements on
holidays, pensions and other benefits.
"After
nine months in dispute, Arriva must understand that RMT will no longer tolerate
what are among the lowest pay rates in the rail industry," said union
general secretary Bob Crow.
"Yet
it has even tabled an offer to our conductors which is worth less than the one
it made six months ago."
