Supermarket
group Asda has offered permanent jobs to 2,000 of the Christmas temps it
employed towards the end of last year.
The
temps joined Asda on three-month contracts last September, but a strong start
to 2003 has led to a need for more staff.
They
will fill a variety of roles across the firm’s 258 stores in the UK and will
bring the total number of employees at Asda to 122,000.
Asda
also said that the Goldies scheme, to recruit elderly workers, has now paid off
with 18 per cent of the workforce at Asda aged over 50.
