Swissport International, the second largest baggage handler at Heathrow Airport, has been criticised for its management of the 750 staff redundancies it made as it went into administration.
According to reports in the national press, employees only discovered they were to lose their jobs when they arrived for work on Monday night and found that their security passes had been revoked.
The Transport and General Workers Union said the move to put the company into administration without any warning or consultation with members was “disgraceful” and “cynical in the extreme.”
The staff had been involved in a long-running pay dispute with the company and staged a 48-hour strike last November.
