Barclays chief executive John Varley has seen his salary more than double to £2.1m from £905,000 last year, including a £1.33m cash bonus.

His pension fund also rose in value by £2.5m to £4.7m last year after his promotion to the top job.
The figures were revealed in the company’s annual report.
