Boatman at
Mersey Docks and Harbour Company have voted to strike on Good Friday after
talks over pay and overtime collapsed.
Workers
affiliated to the T&G union are taking industrial action in response to the
company’s decision to cut pay and overtime.
Union
officials and management will be meeting up today as a last resort to avert
strike action, claimed the T&G union.
Reiterating
the call for a negotiated settlement, Colin Carr, the T&G regional
industrial organiser, said it was not too late for the company to stop the
strike.
“We
believe a resolution will be found round the negotiating table rather than
across the picket line. It is still not too late to achieve that,” said Carr.
He added,
“The boatman believe they have met all reasonable requests for cost cutting by
the Mersey Docks and Harbour company but now enough is enough.”
