Boeing is backing a £15 million manufacturing and research
park to be built in South Yorkshire that is set to create 7,000 jobs.
The Aerospace Manufacturing Research Centre and 100-acre advanced
manufacturing park, will develop the most advanced materials cutting technology
in the world.
It is the culmination of more than 12 months work by
Sheffield University, regional development agency Yorkshire Forward and the
DTI.
The £15 million deal includes a matching package of
government and European union funding.
Boeing will be first to move to the park in Waverly,
Rotherham.
Responding to the announcement, Minister for trade Richard
Carbon, said, “This announcement is a massive vote of confidence in the region
and its workforce. Boeing’s investment will bring highly skilled jobs to
Yorkshire and act as a catalyst to encourage other blue chip companies to
locate in the region.”
