Borders bookstore HQ loses 36 jobs

Administrators have laid off 36 employees based at Borders UK London head office.

The bookstore chain was taken over by administrators MRC last week.

Phil Duffy, partner at MRC said: “Following our appointment as administrators we have undertaken a review of the company’s business and operations in the context of administration and consequently identified a number of positions that have become redundant.”

The HR director was not available for comment.

Duffy confirmed that no redundancies had been made in stores. On Saturday MRC announced closing-down sales at all 45 retail outlets.

Duffy added that there had been considerable interest in the business, and in certain stores, which was actively being pursued.

The firm is looking for a purchaser for all or some of the book chain’s outlets.
