BT
is to set up two call centres in India that will employ around 2,200 people.
The
company said no UK jobs will be lost, but unions representing BT’s call centre
staff are still angry over the decision.
BT’s
two Indian call centres in New Delhi and Bangalore, will be owned by local
companies HCL and Infosys and will handle some of the company’s
teleconferencing and directory inquiries calls.
Powergen
and Thames Water have also announced they plan to transfer calls centres to
India.
