A survey of more than 100 employers by Personnel Today’s sister publication, IRS Emnployment Review, reveals that the workplace Christmas party is in robust health. More than three out of four employers (77%) plan to have a party this year – up from about two-thirds in previous years.
Undeterred by horror stories of fights, sexual harassment and damaged photocopiers, nearly half of all employers plan to fund the entire event, while four out of 10 will at least subsidise the event. The median employer contribution is £40 a head.
Although they may be liable for any misbehaviour – even if the party takes place off the premises and outside working hours – only a minority of employers offer their staff help or advice with their journey home, with most suggesting that staff don’t drink and drive.
