Employees
in the financial services sector fear for their jobs, according to research.
The
research, called CitiPeople Index, suggests that nearly 40 per cent of
London-based workers and 60 per cent of New York-based employees expect their
employers to announce job cuts this year.
Recruitment
company Morgan McKinley’s survey shows that workers in the e-business sector
are most concerned about the future, with 83 per cent admitting they were
worried about their careers.
David
Twiddle, managing director of Morgan McKinley, commented, “The survey shows
that the US economic slowdown has hit the confidence of workers in London and
New York.
"The
issue may only be one confidence however, as layoffs appear to have slowed and
we are seeing strong recruitment activity. Nearly 1,000 financial services
sector employees in London, New York and Dublin were asked about job security.
