Employers
have been warned to make their employment tribunal procedures watertight as
tribunal compensation payouts for unfair dismissal are set to rise.
From
1 February 2001 the compensation claim ceiling will rise from £50,000 to £51,700,
and when compensation for past services is added some claims could reach
£60,000.
Peter
Carr, personnel services officer for the Eastern District Council, said, “It is
another reason for employers to tighten up their procedure, although the £50,000
limit for unfair dismissal was already incentive enough for employees.”
