Cottrills, the UK’s leader in service recognition, has joined forces with national hotel chain Centre Island to create a unique reward and recognition scheme for its 650 strong workforce.
Centre Island Group previously awarded inconsistent monetary bonuses and incentives, but had doubts about the effectiveness of cash rewards. Dee Keeley, Group HR manager, recognised the need for a Centre Island reward and recognition currency, which could be used on a national basis to motivate its employees.
Dee comments: “We felt that giving monetary bonuses undervalued the achievements of staff and recognised that we could add far more value to the process by giving them the chance to earn points that could then be exchanged for a reward of their choice. It was also very important to ensure that everybody was given the same chance to benefit from the scheme and, with the full range of Cottrills gifts and experiences on offer, we had the opportunity to create a consistent incentive scheme across all of our hotels.”
Dee continues: “The scheme has been received with great excitement and has given a real boost to staff morale. We have also used the initiative to implement three new categories of awards including recognition for attendance, long service awards and on the spot discretionary rewards to ensure that the hard work of all employees is recognised.”

Martin Cooper, Head of Marketing at Cottrills, adds: “Centre Island has internalised the scheme within the group to create a tailor made programme, branded and presented by Centre Island. The use of corporate colours and branding on the catalogue supports this aim and offers everything from plasma screens to luxury breaks. Centre Island has been extremely proactive in communicating the benefits of the new points scheme and the company is already reaping the benefits.”
