Hundreds of female nurses in Cumbria are finally set to receive thousands of pounds in compensation after an eight-year equal pay battle.
Under the deal, 600 nurses at North Cumbria Acute Hospitals NHS Trust will receive one-off payments to bring them in line with similar male-dominated roles, reports Nursing Times.
The trust agreed to pay the women the higher salaries after experts ruled that they were doing work equal in value to traditionally male-dominated NHS jobs.

Some of the nurses, who were all expecting to receive payments back in August 2005, could receive up to £240,000, according to their union, Unison.
The trust, which agreed the out-of-court settlement last March, said it would not have to bear the cost of the deal.
