The Communication Workers Union has delayed a ballot
of its members for industrial action in a dispute with Consignia over
outsourcing.
The union has agreed to extend the deadline for
last-ditch talks with Consignia over the proposed outsourcing of its facilities
management unit Romec. This follows the company’s decision to set back the
outsourcing timetable by one week.
The union has warned Consignia that if it does not
secure basic guarantees on pensions, terms and conditions and collective
bargaining rights then a strike ballot will be called.
Talks are due to resume on Wednesday August 28
following the Bank Holiday.

John Keggie, deputy general secretary at the CWU, said
the ballot had been delayed because constructive discussions are still taking
place.
