Using a system of payroll donations has encouraged staff at business services company KPMG to donate £40,000 to the earthquake disaster relief fund, the professional services firm said today.
More than 1,000 staff donated over a two week period to the relief fund for victims of the earthquakes in Pakistan, India and Afghanistan on 8 October.
KPMG said the response was because payroll donations were easy and cost efficient for staff.

A YouGov survey of 1,100 staff across business found 68% of employers do not offer a payroll giving scheme through which employees can make donations.
John Griffith-Jones, chief executive of KPMG UK, said: “We are fully persuaded that payroll giving is the easiest, most tax-efficient way for employees to give to charity. The cost to individuals is less and the charities receive more.”
