The UKCC has reviewed its advice on prescription and administration of
medicines to ensure nurses practise safely.
A consultation document outlining the updated rules will be sent to all
registered nurses, midwives and health visitors in July.

While many of the principles set out in the 1992 publication Standards for
the Administration of Medicines remain the same, the new guidance will also
advise on dealing with patients who possess illicit substances.
