The
Department of Work and Pensions has announced new funding for the promotion of
health and safety, through union safety representatives.
The
‘roving safety reps’ will work with employers to help involve and consult with
the workforce on health and safety.
They
will work primarily with small and medium-sized firms that do not necessarily
have to employ union members.
Brendan
Barber, TUC general secretary, backed the move and said it would help save
lives.
