Liberal Democrat Ed Davey was today unveiled as the new employment minister.
Davey, who reports into business secretary Vince Cable, is MP for Kingston and Surbiton, and was most recently chief of staff to the former party leader, Sir Menzies Campbell.
Former roles on the Liberal Democrat front bench include Lib Dem shadow chief secretary to the Treasury, Lib Dem shadow education and skills secretary, and Lib Dem shadow trade and industry secretary.
As well as employment relations, Davey’s remit will include consumer and postal affairs.
In the full coalition agreement, published today, the government vowed to seek to ensure an injection of private capital into Royal Mail, including opportunities for employee ownership, while retaining the Post Office in public ownership.
The other ministers at the Department for Business are:
David Willetts, universities and science
Mark Prisk, business and Enterprise
John Hayes, skills and lifelong learning
Baroness Wilcox, parliamentary secretary.
