EEF welcomes protection for science and innovation

by Personnel Today 13 Jul 2004
by Personnel Today 13 Jul 2004

The
EEF manufacturers organisation, has claimed the Government’s commitment to
safeguarding key DTI programmes supporting science and innovation is a result
of its intense lobbying.

Commenting
on the Government’s spending review, EEF director general, Martin Temple said:
“These are tough measures, but must be delivered if they are to prevent the tax
rises that manufacturers are desperate to avoid.

“While
the settlement will bite hard at the DTI, we welcome the enhanced funding of
science and technology. We are particularly pleased to see continued support
for enterprise in the regions and the Manufacturing Advisory Service.

“Within
a tough settlement for the Ministry of Defence, the capital budget appears to
have been preserved which will be welcome news to the defence and aerospace
sectors,” he said.
