More than three-quarters of staff would support legislation to help reduce
stress.
In a poll of 1,000 employees by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and
Development (CIPD), 25 per cent said their jobs are very stressful, and stress
levels are significantly higher in the public sector, with the highest stress
levels in the NHS (38 per cent) and local government (30 per cent) The private
sector average is 21 per cent.

Mike Emmott, CIPD adviser on employee relations, said: "Many people
feel they are under constant scrutiny and these people are much more likely to
feel dissatisfied and under stress."
