Thousands of car workers across Europe are to hold a day of
action on Thursday to protest against General Motors’ decision to close its
Luton factory with the loss of 2,000 jobs.
GM employees in the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and Belgium
are expected to be involved in the protest.
A T&G spokesman told Personnel Today that GM production
would be hit hard by the day of action.
He said, "The General Motors’ European Works Council
has called a day of action.
The workers will find their own way of expressing their
disgust at General Motors’ decision to close the Luton plant.”
The day of action follows a march through Luton on Saturday
by 10,000 GM workers as well as staff from other car firms including Ford and
Rover.
