Financial services companies have overtaken telecoms and new
media firms in offering the highest salaries to IT professionals, according to
research.
An IT director in the banking and finance industry can
expect to earn over £138,000, compared to £128,625 in an equivalent position in
the telecoms and new media sectors.
The 2001 TMP Worldwide IT Salary Survey also shows
that IT professionals in Ireland and the Midlands are catching up the salaries
of IT staff in London as the war for talent continues.

Steve Evans, UK head of IT recruitment at TMP Worldwide,
said, “Banking and finance and professional services are both industries that
have traditionally offered very competitive remuneration packages in order to
attract the best talent. This is evidenced by the salaries that they are
offering IT professionals, which are, as a rule, the best in the British Isles.”
The survey was based on
the responses collected by 300 consultants specialising in IT recruitment.
