Hiring and keeping good staff are the main challenges for HR in 2007, according to a survey.
Talent-management firm Taleo’s survey of 150 senior UK HR managers found that 37% regard employee retention as the top issue for next year, while 29% believe it is hiring the best talent.
Lord Sandy Leitch recently told the government that the UK was in the midst of a major skills shortage.
HR professionals face a growing struggle to get the right people for jobs – especially with eight in 10 saying their budget will fall or stay the same in 2007.
Chris Phillips, senior director at Taleo, said: “It is clear that the battle for talent in the UK is hotting up.
“But with HR budgets constrained, organisations need to look for more cost effective ways to improve key talent management processes like recruitment and internal mobility.”
Legal compliance, employee visibility and HR practice measurement were also named as challenges for 2007 by respondents.
