Talks
to avert a national firefighters strike have been adjourned and will resume
next month.
News
website Ananova reports that leaders of the Fire Brigades Union want the annual
salary to be £30,000 – a rise of almost 40 per cent.
The
union was also pressing for firefighters’ 24-year-old pay agreement to be
replaced by a new system.
General
secretary Andy Gilchrist said: "The employers have already raised the
issue of funding for the pay demand and the need for the Government to be
persuaded to fund the increase.
"We
look forward to approaching the Government jointly to obtain this funding as
soon as our employers are prepared to show willing."
