The
Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has rejected a government proposal to stop possible
strike action.
Nick
Raynsford, Fire Service Minister, suggested an independent pay review be set
up, but the FBU continues to recommend industrial action.
The
union is demanding a pay rise of almost 40 per cent – taking firefighters’ pay
to £30,000.
Andy
Gilchrist, FBU General Secretary said members believe they deserve £30,000 and
will not get caught up in any such review.
However
Raynsford has said he believes there are still options available to prevent
strikes.
