Gas
giant Transco has banned engineers from displaying the St George flag on their
vans to support the England football team at Euro 2004.
The
company, which delivers gas to 20 million consumers in the UK, said it was
introducing the ban because it could be construed as ‘racially insensitive’.
The
GMB union said that it would support workers who flouted the ban, and said it
was a good opportunity for workers to reclaim the national flag from the racist
British National Party and others.

“Transco workers are less than impressed at the company’s silly attempt
to stop them supporting the national football team."
