An initiative by an occupational health nurse has led to workers at a
factory in Wirral being offered exotic fruits to eat every day for 10 weeks.
OH nurse Margarita Harbron introduced the free fruit voucher scheme after
becoming concerned about the diets of some of the 500 staff at cake and
bread-making factory Arkady Craigmillar. Habron was worried that some of the
workers were not eating enough fruit or vegetables.
She got together with Wirral’s Take Five project – designed to promote the
recommended daily quota of five portions of fruit or vegetables a day – and the
factory’s contract caterers Sodexho to implement the voucher scheme.
