The
TUC and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health is calling on the
Government to introduce a legally binding code of practice on workplace
smoking.
New
research shows that around 1,200 employees in the UK die every year due to
passive smoking in the workplace.
The
figures show that 900 office staff, 165 bar workers and 145 manufacturing
employees die from second-hand smoke in the workplace.
According
to the TUC, the UK is lagging behind other countries in this area and warns
employers could soon face legal action from staff made ill by passive smoking.
