HR
directors are being paid more than their counterparts in other business
functions, according to a new survey.
The
latest CIPD survey shows average pay for HR directors is £56,757 – 3.2 per cent
above the average for other functions.
This
marks an end to the trend of HR directors pay being lower than the market rate,
the CIPD has claimed.
A
CIPD adviser on pay and employment conditions said: “These figures suggest
personnel directors are highly valued by their organisations.
“They
reflect a change in views from one of personnel management as being mainly
administrative to one of people management as a key strategic role in achieving
business aims.”
The
gender pay gap at the top level of HR has not closed with men being paid on
average 17.7 per cent more than women.
The
figure was 12.1 per cent in 1999, 2.5 per cent in 1998 but 30.2 per cent in
1992.
