An on-line freelance assessment centre to help skilled HR and training managers find out whether freelance life is right for them has been launched by inconet.com, the site of the Independent Consultants Network. Believed to be the first assessment centre of its kind, it takes people through a series of questionnaires to test their business instincts, organisational skills and marketing knowhow.
Helpline launched to offer advice on back pain
The TUC, BackCare and the Forum of Private Business launched a back pain report this week, examining the number of days lost as a result of work-related back strain and which industrial sectors had the most casualties. A phone line will be open from 16 to 20 October (Backcare week) to give employers and staff advice about preventing and treating back pain. The helpline number is 0800 032 0044.
CBI argues case against corporate killing law
The CBI has criticised government proposals for a new offence of “corporate killing” as unfair. It argues in its official response that companies could be left defenceless because there are no clear tests of whether a firm is to blame, and firms could be convicted when they have no reasonable way of anticipating or reducing the risk.
Most directors opt for smart casual office wear
“Smart casual” dress is considered the most appropriate outfit for everyday office life by 55 per cent of company directors, according to research by The Aziz Corporation, an independent spoken communications consultancy. But 89 per cent of directors still felt a suit was the most appropriate attire for business or client meetings.
