A dot.com HR manager is calling on fellow personnel professionals to become
involved in a network to share ideas and best practice in the growing Internet
sector.
Julia Rice, HR manager at sports.com, said that the nature of Internet
companies meant HR professionals in the sector faced a new set of challenges.
These include retaining staff, plugging the IT skills gap and getting the
benefits package right – including stock options.
Rice, who moved to sports.com from Virgin Atlantic, wants to hold an initial
meeting in the next couple of months.
Sandra Goodwin, HR specialist for HR search and services company e9c agreed
that there was interest in the area of Internet start-ups from personnel staff.
"Definitely the desire is there. It is perceived as a sexy industry to
be in. It is a green field site so you have the opportunity to create something
that has your stamp on it."
