A call centre in Plympton, Plymouth, is expected to close in June, with the loss of nearly 200 jobs.
The call centre owner, 118 118, has begun a 90-day consultation process with staff, and said it is offering its 180 workers voluntary redundancy, reports the BBC.
Some staff are applying for positions at the company’s South Wales call centres.
The Plympton centre, which opened in 2003, initially employed 300 people, but the increasing popularity of the internet lead to a fall in business.
William Ostrom, a spokesman for 118 118, said the news had come as a shock to staff, despite the fall in numbers in recent years.
